Concentration that hides in familiar names

Local favourites and employer stock often look diversified until a single sector week rearranges the book.

Concentration rarely announces itself as a single ticker. It arrives as a cluster: a bank, a property developer, and an infrastructure fund that all lean on the same credit cycle.

In Bangkok sessions we often ask clients to list the five largest economic exposures by theme, not by broker label. The exercise is uncomfortable because familiar names feel safer than they measure.

Practical checks

None of this requires exotic models. It requires patience with statements and honesty about how much of the household’s risk sits in one story.

A pre-allocation stress check is useful when you are about to add another familiar name to an already heavy theme.
